bounded interactive answers in Work, ChatDGC and Pips

Generative UI

#

When a small comparison or progress report is easier to scan than prose, DGC can add a Generative UI card to its answer. The normal text answer remains readable on its own. In 0.50, this is on by default for editor conversations. Terminal ChatDGC does not ask for cards, and Markdown exports leave the card data out while keeping the answer's prose. The card uses DGC components in your editor theme; the model supplies only bounded data. It cannot send HTML, JavaScript, a custom component, or a new permission rule.

In Work

#

Ask for a project status, test summary, comparison, or next steps. A card can show metrics, progress steps, bars and tables beside the existing tool calls, specialist agents, agent map, Pip fix cards and artifacts. Tool activity remains in the usual tool cards. When a verified test runner result includes counts, its tool card can show a small pass/fail track.

In ChatDGC

#

Ask for a comparison or a short decision with clear options. A choice card sends its reply as a new chat message when clicked. It does not run a connected app or grant permission by itself. Widgets and saved artifacts still open in their own editor tabs and Library.

In Pips

#

A Pip can use the same cards in its own conversation to summarize an audit or offer next requests. A click sends a message to that Pip through its existing chat path. Pip schedules, proposals, approvals, reports and background work retain their own controls.

What a card can contain

#

Version 1 supports metrics (up to 8), steps (up to 8), bars (up to 12), a table (up to 5 columns and 8 rows), and choices (up to 4). At most six blocks fit in a card. Malformed or oversized data stays visible as code instead of becoming a partial card. Clicking a choice sends its text immediately, as if you sent a prompt; DGC's ordinary permissions still apply to any action it requests. The card never silently verifies a claim or executes a tool.

In an SDK host, use extract_generative_ui (Python) or extractGenerativeUi (TypeScript) to read validated cards from a Work, ChatDGC or Pip reply. Render the returned data in your app; route a choice through your usual SDK send method. See the SDK guide for an example.
